| PSI can perform online removal and processing of solids from tank bottoms which can improve product quality, and defer the need to remove the tank from service for cleaning. |
| THE CHALLENGE |
| Build up of several feet of catalyst fines in 140' diameter heavy aromatic fuel oil tank was creating product quality problem. Scheduling and economics heavily favored removal of the solids without taking the tank out of service for cleaning. |
| THE SOLUTION |
| PSI configured a processing system which utilized special pumping equipment, tanks and centrifuges to remove catalyst fines from the tank via existing connections. |
| THE RESULTS |
| A total of 1500 tons of dewatered catalyst fines were removed from the tank in 26 days without any safety or environmental incidents. The tank was returned to product sales service within two days of completion of solids removal operations. |
| THE ANALYSIS |
|
This work was completed at a fraction of the cost of conventional cleaning. Product quality was improved, and the run time of the tank was extended. Savings to the customer from this approach far exceeded the actual cost of the project.
