CASE HISTORY
East Coast Naval Facility

NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCE

  • 9 concrete Underground Storage Tanks cleaning project completed in 1/3 the time of conventional cleaning with substantial cost savings to the direct customer and the government.

  • Local State control agency acquires a new standard of UST cleaning criteria.

THE CHALLENGE

Naval facility needed concrete UST's built in the 1940's, and abandoned in the 1970's cleaned to complete oil free status to obtain state approval for demolition.

To make matters worse, the vessels were also accepting incoming ground water from various cracks and upthrust, and the project spanned the winter months where snow and temperatures down to -20 degrees were present.

THE SOLUTION

Use PSI's patented robotics system to strip tanks with cutter stock and then clean the concrete vessels with high temperature chemical wash. This process was done while maintaining an excess of 200 psi on the system and utilizing minimal personnel entry.

THE RESULTS

PSI removed all detectable oil from the UST's in 1/3 of the time required of conventional methods, and with only 1/4 of the personnel load.

THE ANALYSIS

By using PSI, the job was completed in record time, within customer requirements, and with no safety or environmental incidents.

You can rely on PSI to complete your toughest tank cleaning projects in the safest, most cost effective, and environmentally sound manner.
